Most of us have an image in our mind of a typical UK motorhome as being something like a Transit with a large caravan attached to the bed of the van, totally different to the large US RVs (Recreational Vehicles) we see on TV or films. A-Class Motorhomes

The A-Class as its name suggests, is considered by some to be the cream of the UK motorhomes with a high degree of luxury fittings. Traditionally they have weighed in at between 3.5 tons and 7 tons, meaning that many people cannot drive them on a normal car licence. More recent models to the A-class range are coming in at below 3.5 tons making them more accessible for people with standard driving licences. The price you can pay for an A-class is, in simple terms, pretty much limitless.

US Style RVs

Some traditionalist UK motorhome owners consider the US style RVs as a little brash and ostentatious. They tend to be bigger than the A-class and some can be too big for some UK roads. There also may be some problems on some campsites with the size of pitches available. The running costs can also be very high.

Fixed Roof Camper Vans

After the high specification A-class and the RVs it is back to a more basic motorhome. The fixed roof camper van is about the most straightforward version of a camper van on the market. It is, in essence a standard van with the inside kitted out with the basic needs of a motorhome. The vans often appeal to those on a budget or those who do not want a large vehicle.

Rising Roof Camper Vans

Rising roof camper vans are really just fixed roof vans with a roof that pushes up. They offer extra height for moving about. If they are to be used in winter it would be advisable to check they type of roof, do they have panels that could be fitted to the raised section to add extra insulation.

High Top Camper Vans

High Top Camper Vans are growing in popularity due to their economical running costs and being much easier to drive. Some of the latest models feature options like permanent beds. As the base models become longer so do the list of options available.

Over Cab Motorhomes

Over cab motorhomes are easily identified by a large bulge over the cab. This area is to contain a permanent double bed. Whilst the over cab motorhomes may be able to sleep several people there may be insufficient seats for them to sit safely in whilst travelling.

Low Profile Motorhomes

Low profile motorhomes are very much in vogue at the moment. They tend to all look very stylish and can come packed with an array of high end equipment more often found in the A-class motorhome. Beds that raise and lower electrically are one of the features that can be found in todays’ low profile motorhomes.
